Senior Housing Resources

First, we have no affiliation with any of the resources listed here. We bring you this list to make it easier for you to find your best downsizing option. We are based in Newton Massachusetts, so while we will list nationwide resources, expect that we will have a focus for the Greater Boston area.

There are basically 4 options:

1. Lower Maintenance Home Buy a house or condo that meets your needs for a smaller, more accessible home. If you need help with that, contact our team. Those homes can be found here or on any of the many home search sites. We can set you up to get listings that meet your criteria if you would like.
2. A 55+ community. Still independent living, but typically in a condo community that takes care of the exterior care for all the homes. At least one owner must be 55+
3. Condo Community that is not 55+. You still will not need to take care of the exterior of the property but there would be no age restrictions.
4. Continued Care Communities – these communities typically allow you to buy a condo and live independently and, as you age and your health declines, you can move to assisted living or to memory care as needed. If you leave the community, you are able to sell the condo back to the community and keep most of what you paid for the condo.
5. Assisted Living – a community for those who may need help with select activities of daily living. These communities typically charge a monthly fee for an apartment, rather than buying a condo.
6. Memory Care – these are similar to assisted living communities, but are specifically designed for those challenged with dementia or Alzheimer’s who need a greater level of guidance and hands-on care.
